Randy is pictured here playing a Theremin. Invented in 1919 by Leon Theremin, it is the world’s oldest electronic musical instrument. The Theremin is played without physically touching the instrument. The player moves their hands freely in the air, modifying electronic fields created by two antennas, one for pitch and one for volume. Because of this lack of physical reference, the Theremin is one of the most difficult instruments to learn, but with practice and the right physical form and mindset, the instrument is capable of great musical beauty. Randy is playing his Moog Claravox, named after the legendary Theremin virtuoso, Clara Rockmore.
